These fish are
fast swimming predators of open marine waters. Although possible, the
carangids are rarely seen going into brakish waters. They often feed on
smaller fish or zooplankton found on or around coral reefs. When they
feed, jakcs have been seen cornering smaller baitfish and hunting so voraciously
that it looks like the water surface is boiling. Carangids are often silvery
in colour and may reach a weight of more than 30 kg (close to 70 lbs).
The jacks are fished commercially but are especially popular as a sport
fish.
