BIODIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC NW!

Arctic Alpine Zone:

The alpine zone of high mountain regions creates a unique environment among the lower forested areas. Basically, these mountains have such extreme conditions that only a few specially selected organisms can withstand it. Most of these organisms however, can't exist in the forests that separate the mountains. Because of this, the mountain is almost like an isolated island. The barriers between cut off gene flow and thus, act to speed the evolution of new species due to natural drift in the gene flow.

We were very excited to get up to this region. Its not the easiest thing to do however. Enjoy this quick clip of our latest adventure or read our journal entry of the day.
